BMW 1802

The 114 series, also known as the BMW 02 series, covers the medium-sized vehicles that BMW built in the years 1966 to 1977. The BMW 02 series completed the bottom end of BMW's range. It was derived from the BMW 1600 of the "New class" but the models only had two doors.

Only four-cylinder types (engine type M10) were built and were known as the 1502, BMW 1600-2, 1602, 1600 ti, 1802 and 2002, 2002 ti, 2002 tii and BMW 2002 turbo, where the first two digits indicated the cubic capacity (with the exception of the 1502 that had a capacity of 1600 cm³).

Baur in Stuttgart produced two Cabrio versions of the 02, a full cabriolet and a targa, the biggest of which featured a two-litre engine and delivered 100 bhp. The BMW 02 series was very successful and even gave new impetus to motor racing, especially the German Motor Racing Championship. The series prompted the opening of a number of tuning companies like Alpina, Schnitzer, Koepchen, GS-Tuning etc. who helped to make the 02 even more sporty.
